Rooting A855 noob help

I've been considering rooting my droid 1 now that I can replace it whenever I want with a new phone. I looked at the sticky for all in 1 manual rooting and update and found that the update.zip is no longer a valid link. I would assume nobody is much worried about this ancient phone. Still, can anyone point me to good links for the files needed to backup the factory rom and then root?

Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

This provides all files needed and a simple guided instruction to root the D1. I use thus myself all the time if i ever feel the need to reroot my D1 to make it feel new.
