Droid can't run Froyo
So I've had my Droid for over a year now, running the stock Android 2.1, everything nice and smooth. However, I ran out of space to store apps/games on the phone, and I found out I could store them on the SD card if I were to update to Android 2.2. So I used Motorola's update service (I didn't do it manually) to get my phone on 2.2, and I immediately noticed lllllaaaaggggggg. For the simplest touch input the phone now takes a good second or so to register, it's really annoying. Its frame-rate during games is abysmal and most of the time when I press the home key it takes about 30 seconds for my apps and widgets to load onto the screen.
Now, I generally consider my self to know my computers, so I assume it's memory problems (though I have no first hand experience with smart-phones). I know Android takes the apps and widgets out the memory to free up some more for the application I'm processing, but 1. it isn't enough and 2. I can't handle waiting half a minute to switch between apps.
I know the Droid should be able to run 2.2 fine, though. What could be going wrong? :<

Get rooted and onto a custom ROM.
If you want to stick with Froyo get CM6.
OG Droid can handle a 1GHz overclock pretty well.
Read the stickies in here and you'll be on your way...

This.
Or free up internal memory by removing some apps.

I rooted my phone using superoneclick. Then I used Titanium Backup to batch move 90% of my apps to the SD Card. Titanium Backup also has tools to delete left over installation files in the Dalvik cache and move some files from RAM to ROM.
I also "freeze" programs (keeps them from starting) that I don't use, such as Facebook, Goggles, Gmail, Voice Search, Talkback, Email, Voice Dialer, Visual VM, DRM Protected Content, Twitter, Kickback and Soundback.
I think the free version will let you do these things. Be careful with the the batch processes because all programs are checked by default and you probably don't want that, especially freezing.
