How is it as a plain old telephone?
I am still using a Motorola E815. Why? Because I am often in the middle of nowhere and signals are weak, if present at all. The E815 is a legend for it's excellent ability to grab and send signal. I am enough of a tech addict that I have put an antenna amp on the E815 and tethered when necessary, while traveling The Droid has obvious appeal, but I have read nothing about it's ability as a telephone. You know, the thing that you speak into, and then someone, at a great distance, can hear your words. Anyone here from rural Utah or Montana that can tell me about how the Droid sends and receives voice comm? Thanks

I'm in Utah...............but not rural Utah. Cottonwood heights area. I have not had any issues with it grabbing phone signals.............but again, I'm not that rural.

I'm in rural NW Illinois and Eastern Iowa and and the phone sounds great. Better then my old Moto Krazer and definitely better then my Storm 1, which was horrible as a phone. The phone is very clear, but then again I may only use 60 minutes a month. Verbal communication seems so archaic.

I live in northern minnesota far from any real civilization and my droid works great as a phone the speaker phone is so clear that no one can tell that they are on speaker phone and I get great signal in places that my friends with other VZ phones get nothing and not to mention all the other options I have to make calls over the net without any signal from verizon witch doesn't happen that often I say GET The DROID

yup just go with the droid, while im on campus in some buildings ill barely have one bar with 1X but the call quality is still qute amazing.
For when Zues needs to summon the power of the skies, I shall answer the call...THUNDERBOLT HOOOOOOO!

With all my previous phones, getting a signal inside my house back home was always near impossible (stupid lead paint, copper wiring and asbestos...
). I would often have to go outside in order to not lose a call. Got my Droid and used it at home for about 2 weeks before coming back to my apartment... no problems. Got and received calls fine, had full 3G, not 1 single issue. I was sold.

i run a small pest control company, so my job takes me places that no one gets a signal. the droid has done great. 3g in most every place i have went. the only 2 places that i actually lost signal i could pretty much hear banjo music playin
(paddle faster).
It does great as a phone. i shalt sing the praises of da droid. In east TN atleast

Another vote for rock solid here. Had mine since early November, and have yet to lose service in rural Iowa.I've had it drop down to 1X a few times, but never lost service completely.

no matter where you are, it will always be better than AT&T!

i live in a small college town in the middle of nowhere louisiana and i laugh ruthlessly at all the hacks with iphones constantly whining how they cant ever get a signal anywhere on campus when im sitting in class with 5 bars of 3g... ok it might be slower but at least i dont have to go to the roof to use it... and as for the call quality on droid... friggen amazing and the speaker phone is loud.. only dropped a call twice and that was in my house and this is the first phone ive had that has been able to pick up a signal in my house
