Emails Vanish or are False / Noob Needs Help

Hi Guys, Thanks For Looking,

Coming from an Env2 to the Droid I am loving it but confused over emailing and syncing. I figure I have a bad setting or am missing something.
I need layman's terms here because I am smart phone GREEN and I think I am loosing emails. Or getting FALSE notifications?

Not good because I am job hunting!

Every so often I'll get an email notification tone and when I pull down the box WOOSH! Nothing there, Gone! Nothing in any deleted folder either. No trace of it. I go to my Comcast and gmail servers on my desktop and no sign of an email ever coming or going at the time I got the notification. I do an Outlook send/receieve and there is nothing indicating one has came to my Comcast account. I do not use Outlook for gmail. Gmail is Droid or Webb based only.

Here are my details.

I have a gmail account setup in the phone. I take it the check mark next to it in the list means it's the default?
I have a Comcast.net email account also. Nothing special in the settings was done, just added the POP3 amd STMP and such and Never Delete From Server remains selected.

In the Droid Accounts & Sync I have Background Data and Auto-sync checked and the message accounts (gmail) has the green icon and says Sync is on.

So what do you think. What else do I need to check. I build my own computers so I know better than to fudge around.

Is there a history of false email notifications with Verizon, Comcast or with the Droid? I just got it a week ago. I have had only one freeze and reboot. It may have been from me going crazy through it to find the perceived problem.

Also, I really do not need another email account but was told I did @ verizon. I am not a power user. I just need my comcast account basically. I add contacts very rarely and can do it painlessly by hand if needed. I have experienced Sync issues in the years past of duplicates or lost contacts.

Are you sure its an email notification? If its on the right side and is a circular symbal with arrows its just your phone syncing with something.

I'm sure. It's on the right. Strange because if it was an email it would still be on my server to check from a pc or Webb mail.
I don't think the droid could go back and wipe it from there.

Well, not sure this is "on target", but my pop3 emails disappear off my Droid when I download them from the server and onto my home computer. I've watched it happen in two ways. 1. When I have emails on the Droid and I then go and download them to the laptop, the next time the Droid checks for pop3 emails they will disappear from the Droid. 2. I've also seen the Droid alert me to new pop3 emails while I was sitting at the laptop. I've downloaded the new emails and if I wait past the time for another download (I have K-9 set to check for new pop3 emails every 15 minutes) and then open K-9, the emails are no longer there.

Some people hate this about pop3 on the Droid, I love it. It means I don't have to delete them off the Droid. It's taken care of for me. YMMV

I hear you, but my problem is......

I get an alert.
I swipe the box down and it gone!

This is not every time. Three times since I have had it. But I'm waiting for job hunting respnces and when it happens I freak!

I get the same thing I assume it is when I switch towers while driving because it seems to happen when I leave one area and drive to another, I get notifications for the same E-mails that I have already received and viewed.

Another note...

This morning I get three E-mails one is normal and the other two show a date of 12/31/1969 there is nothing there when I open them.
I'm just thinking someone has their system date set wrong.
