ROM Refresh = New Fast Phone. Same ROM Over Time = Slow Phone

    Hello Forum,

I've been putting Roms on my Motorola Droid for about a year now. For each iteration, the primary reason I would go on to another ROM is because the previous ROM would become slow over time. Whether it was MIUI, SS, or CM, it didn't matter. When I would first put it on, my phone was great; but after a little while using the ROM, the phone would be slower than molasses, no matter how much I would overclock it.

What's going on with the Phone that would make the phone slow down like this? Do others experience this phenomenon?

^^Im new to the whole rom/root android os phone. However, I can imagine its like any other device/computer. A fresh install always seems to run faster and smoother, then after time of moving files, running process, cache, etc, the phone begins to slow...

Look at what's using your resources. Over time you accumulate apps, data, etc. What's using your CPU? RAM? Internal storage? ROM's don't just slow down on their own. Do some housekeeping. You can't just pile up stuff on your device and expect it to run as smoothly as day one.

I thought of that too, but I have never had this problem on Linux, so I didn't think it would happen on Android since it's based on Linux. I have heard wiping the Dalvik cache every once in a while helps things, but never to the extent of refreshing my phone did.

The occasional clean reboot does wonders. Also, when it begins to run slow and even a reboot doesn't help, wiping cache and dalvik usually helps.

However, several times even that hasn't helped. But a clean install of the same ROM fixes everything up. Nothing like starting over fresh. I've been on my current ROM for a month rebooting every other day and its smooth as butter.

As soon as it begins slowing I'll give it a clean install.

I don't know much about Linux or coding but I think that even a fresh reboot with wiping cache and dalvik cache doesn't quite get every "junk" file your rom accumulates over time. Like perhaps the kernel cache doesn't quite get fully cleared ever reboot or other unneeded internal files don't get wiped either (keep in mind I don't think even root explorer can look at EVERY file on your phone [like it can't see .android_secure] and there are also many processes [found in /proc] that might need routine maintenance that is currently not available) remember the android os is still fairly new and still continuously being developed so maybe someday there will be a way to truly clean all the "junk" files

Incredible. I was Liquid faithful for a long time, but this ROM is just so stable and is as quick and smooth as LGB.

Cush doesn't get the traffic or recognition this ROM deserves. I haven't even tried Liquid's new release because of how much I like this ROM.

    ****
Be sure to note that Cush included the Go Keyboard in his most recent release and it seems to cause the alt-lock function to not work. I just removed it and installed the stock GB keyboard and all is well.

The ONLY issue with this ROM is that the "i" will not automatically capitalize. I believe Cush said it's a framework issue and will be fixed in his next release.
