    Google Maps / Nav?

I have the Orig Droid and use my phone for 3 things:

    1. Texting
    2. Making callls
    3. Navigation

I am soooo looking forward to getting my Droid Pro (overlooking the call quality "issue")

Has anyone used the Google Navigation feature much? Thoughts??

Haven't yet. I makes you give it access to your location and other things to access it (I know nav would need this, but don't understand why maps NEEDS it too), and have felt a little uneasy about doing that. Anyone have some insights on this?

Just returned from 1st business trip with the pro. Used all of the above:

    1. Texting - i use Handcent SMS. It works without issue on the Pro. Text input is much improved with the keyboard (compared to the soft keyboard on my old Droid X

    2. Making calls - the native dialer is the best yet on any droid to date and includes t9 / "dial by name" dialing ... that said, i found it required an extra "click" or two to get to the desired phone number / contact. I am a fan of DialerOne so using that as my default dialer

    3. Navigation - no problems at all. I was a little concerned about the Pro's smaller screen (3.1") for navigation, but my concern was all for naught. Google Maps Navigation worked like a charm. Screen size presented no problems

And you had no issues with "call quality"? I know that's been a common issue...

The phone needs to configure your location to use many of the different apps or it won't work. Just searching for local businesses, or using FourSquare, or using maps requires the phone to know your location..... just like my Blackberry phones. I was able to leave my GPS location settings to ON with my BBerry without draining the battery, but I have to be careful with my Droid or it drains the battery. Have to manually turn it on and off every time I want to use one of those features or apps. Kind of a pain, but oh well.
FINALLY got my GN2 from slow-poke VZN !!

I guess I just don't get why it needs to know my location to do maps. I get gps, foursquare, and all the rest.

Maps immediately centers on your location which IMO is one of the best features of the app. If you are in a strange city, orienting yourself without that feature is a huge pain.

I can't imagine using Maps without it knowing my location.
