You're gonna need to 1) go to the verizon store to have them swap it, or 2) install rsd lite and reflash the 2.26 sbf. There are a few threads on here with the links and instructions. If you can't find them, repost and somebody will be able to help you out by finding them etc.

Got the update about 2 am this morning. Haven't bothered re-rooting yet. Think I'm just gonna wait until z4root gets updated to work or whatever.

First findings so far is transition between screens is snappier and more fluid. Battery life is incredible.

Mine booted up after update with the same darn 'ddddrrrrooooooiiiidddd' sound (groan). Maybe on next restart, though as perhaps the only un-rooted user here, that may be the price I pay for not rooting!

rocket_girl, you aren't the only un-rooted user. I haven't rooted my phone either. I'm not sure if the update offers you the option of getting rid of the start up audio, but I think some people's issue is with the phone restarting on its own and making the noise unexpectedly. If the update keeps it from restarting itself at inopportune times maybe that will be good enough. Actually, my phone has only ever done that once, so it hasn't been a problem for me.

Alas, I have the random-restart issue, so I am hoping this update addresses that! You are right - the noise is mostly irrelevant as long as it doesn't keep restarting randomly!

Was your phone on silent when it booted up after the update? It seems that people are reporting that the sound isn't going off on a reboot when the phone is in silent mode beforehand.

Nope. Have tried this a few ways, including silent & vibrate, and the Droid sound is audible every time. I'm not rooted either, but one-to-many reboots in the middle of night before an early flight in the morning has got me trying root . ..

Has anyone noticed a lot of static on incoming calls? Bad enough that I have to hang up and call the person back. Exchange is working great so far

I've tried a few times now and my phone tells me update failed upon reboot. I'm not sure what I've done to my phone to do this. I even tried un-freezing everything and moving all my apps to internal memory and still the update fails. Not sure what to do at this point.

Did you uninstall any stock apps?
