Most people know just enough about modern technology to operate it within the parameters of their daily lives. I think a lot of that holds true even on these forums. Since we were slated to get ICS and it's taken so long, a slew of moderately tech savvy people have found the forums in the hopes of getting more information on when it will be available to them. Most of them probably do not even bother to look up what MD5 is.

So yeah, you really can't blame them for being afraid to take the plunge. People naturally fear what they can't see or don't understand.

I don't...what I blame is the people who jump in without reading and start flashing things cause they're impatient. Then when they f it up, they expect someone to fix it for them. Had they taken the 10 minutes to read what they were doing, they'd not get in that situation. The issue we have is there's no FXZ if something goes wrong. So flashing this, even though it's OTA, entails risk that people don't seem to care about or want to even know about. People have no clue how many pm's I get on the 6 forums I'm on from people thinking that I'm going to give them STEP BY STEP personal instructions on how to do their update for them. It's hilarious in a sick and twisted sort of way.

The best thing I did to increase my knowledge was to jump into the HoB and Moot threads around the time of the .244 updates. I googled all sorts of terms, learned about recovery and fastboot, RSD, took several dry runs through the House, and even wrote down notes with an old fashioned pad and pen in case i had major issues. These programs do "real stuff" to your device and if something goes wrong it's nice to not only know what went wrong, but be able to describe exactly where and in what step it went wrong, what errors you might face and a possible solution.
    Currently Running ICS .246...For now.

I am not part of the soak test. I just checked it manually and there it is, ICS by official OTA. Downloading now. I am in Chicago suburbs.

Even after I verified it personally that it's MD5 hash matches the build being pushed OTA. "But it could still be different" UM, WTF? HOW? No answer. Cause people don't get the concept of MATHEMATICALLY sound evidence. When someone says it's MD5 hash matches, that's not hyperbole for "well, it's probably similar". It means it matches 100% bit for bit. The ONLY difference is in how it gets installed. Be the HoB, directly in recovery (same method as HoB, btw), or using the automated script that installs it in recovery for you once it's downloaded OTA. All 3 use the same recovery with the same exact file. That's it. The only difference....is how you acquire the file and choose to install it. Once it's installed, I guarantee you can't tell the "difference" between one done with the HoB and one done OTA. Why? Cause there IS no difference.
Well i hope a lot of folks read that, the entire paragraph is a lesson in itself. Hopefully they all will get the concept someday. On a similar note, someone is already questioning me on the link thread.."why is this link necessary " gee idk, maybe I'm just trying to help, or maybe I'm trying to confuse people with a different version !!

And I appreciate it. I give grief to those that don't read and end up causing me a headache. On the other side I give praise to those that do bother to take the time. So thank you.
