Linux should have a built in command line that will let you quickly get the MD5 of it. Just do a quick search.. Sam posted the checksum for the download, make sure they match - biggest thing is you want to protect yourself. Be slow, be methodical, be careful and you'll arrive alive.

I've run Gentoo and one neat thing about the portage system on that is it automatically checks downloaded files against the MD5's it has in the database. No match - it fails it instantly. It does this to protect you.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM - just use the .zip filename instead of the Linux .iso filename, and compare with the hashes Sam posted.

if you have already extracted the contents out and and you're looking at Sam's scripts you may also find the md5 checksum for the update file itself.

HoB checks the uploaded file on your phone against a known hash to further reduce the chance of bricking.

Yeah, but like I said, unless I want to install ****ty Windows 8 on my laptop (which I don't want to), I can't really run HoB here...

I checked the MD5 of the zip file itself, but it didn't match with the one on the faq.

Good luck, friend. I may be asleep by the time you finish. Just copy it to your external SD card, reboot the phone into stock recovery, and select the option to install a .zip file from the sdcard. Pick the option to choose a zip file, and you'll be on your way.

The nice thing about the Moto .zip files is that checking the MD5 is basically an added safeguard, a corrupt file will fail its own self-check before installing, anyways. But it's always good to confirm, if nothing else, it saves the time of TRYING to install a bad .zip
