Hi all, new to the forum, im not too tech savvy like a lot of people on here, but I think I might have a change of heart with my upgrade. I just upgraded my phone from a D1 on the 16th, and on the 19th I hear that the DROID razr is coming out soon. How I have read how some are upset over this because they got their phones when they first dropped, but I literally JUST got this phone. I was thinking of taking it back and switching, but it seems to me that the only noticeable difference is the size. So I guess I'm asking for some FRIENDLY advice.

The "problem" with Android phones (Apple does not have this "problem" with once yearly-ish upgrades) is that a "far better" phone is ALWAYS just around the corner. I love my Bionic. Yes, the RAZR looks like a fantastic phone although I think the screen is a bit larger and I would prefer a 4.0" screen). Kevlar .... nice.

But that does not make the Bionic any less of a phone. You've got your return window right now and if you want the RAZR then now is the time to return the Bionic. Of course a software update for the Bionic is due next month resolving most issues, and who knows what will need to be resolved with the RAZR.

Specwise the Razr isn't much (if at all) better than the Bionic. Depending on how you like the Bionic's screen, the Razr's screen should look better, but will take more battery life. The Razr doesn't have the ability to pull the battery, and therefore doesn't have the ability to use an extended battery either.

There are a lot of threads floating around here about this comparison, but honestly, besides the screen and some difference in thickness, I'm not seeing the Razr as much of an upgrade.

The bionic is cool. Of course I'm attracted to the sleek styling of the razr. But I'm thinking I should get the most out of my money. They cost the same. The phone being sealed is kind of a turn off. Is there any release date yet?

Had heard about the Razr, but still settled on the bionic. Don't fret because there's a new toy coming out. I actually see the bionic as the superior model.

Its meant to cater to a different crowd.
You just have to decide if lighter, thinner is your thing.

The lighter part was what killed the razr for me, that and the battery.

My only caution would be the battery. I think, between the fact that it cannot be removed, and the screen being termed "HD", you may see a quicker drop in battery life than you would with the Bionic. Thus leading you to carrying around a charger more often than you may prefer. Which may not be a problem for you. Personally I would still pick the Bionic over the RAZR for that reason alone. For example, I was up in Charlotte two nights this past week for concerts, and it was nice to be able to slip a spare battery in my pocket just in case I ran out of juice (I use Google Music, so I'm constantly streaming while driving). However, I ended up not needing it, even when my phone had been off a charger since 7am till roughly 3am. Still, nice option to have.

As for the other "upgrades" between the two devices: The slight bump in clock speed won't mean much, even after ICS hits these devices. The screen, while more "beautiful" indoors, I fear will not hold up as well in direct sunlight as the Bionic does. While the RAZR is thinner, in all honesty you get used to the Bionic after a day or three with it. So unless you're considering getting some kind of case for your device, I wouldn't really call it a plus.

I see what you're saying. If I were to switch I'd probably get a hard case for it which would defeat the purpose of having a thinner phone. Eh, I'll see what happens at the end of the week. Thing is if I were to switch they'll probably come out with a DROID krazr next year.

Where did you get the Bionic? If at BB isn't there a 90-day return? The release date is "early November."

I stand corrected. That'll make the decision harder.

The big thing for me is battery life. I don't want it to die when I'm out so I got the extended battery. With the RAZR you can't. Also, if you ever have to do a battery pull (and I have with the Bionic) you can't with the RAZR. Yes people say you can just do the "Power Volume Up/Down" hard reset but that doesn't work if the phone is unresponsive and the buttons don't work. And besides, if you do that it'll reset the phone to like it was when you got it.
