    how scratch-resistant is gorilla glass?

Can it scratch just from things in your pocket or fingernails etc? Or do you have to drop it and have it scrape on something? I never drop or bang my phone against anything, but I get paranoid about tiny scratches, and I hate protectors because it messes with the look of the screen.

I've seen videos of people taking scissors and knives to it and it does nothing. Any dirt or rocks will definitely scratch it though. I keep my D1 free of a case or screen covers and it has zero scratches, have had it for a year and a half too. I am pretty careful with it though.

My D1 has hit the asphalt many times resulting in many scratches in the metal trim surrounding the glass. That and no screen protectors for two years and not a single scratch, not even the tiniest. You'd be far more likely to crack the glass, than scratch it, ever.

Another definition of ghey: When a self appointed "referee" decides to join a "debate" (that's okay) but then decides to end/close the "debate", only because both sides have valid points & he/she just can't win and/or doesn't want to hear the other opinions any longer...

If the thunderbolt really has gorilla glass, it is easy as hell to scratch the screen. You don't have to drop it you just need to put it in your pocket with nothing else in your pocket. I have tons of micro scratches in my screen. It looks horrible :-\

Sand and salt will scratch gorilla glass very easily. Believe it or not keys, knives, and other metal items are actually a softer material than gorilla glass and that's why keys won't scratch ur screen easily. So unless you like to play in the sand box alot or smuggle salty French fries in your pocket to the movies, I wouldn't worry about a screen protector. Oh and lets not forget about diamonds. I wouldn't throw your phone in the same pocket u carry diamonds unless u don't care about scratches.

Even if you normally do not like screen peotectors you owe it to your Droid to try the skinomi screen protector.

It is like not having one on at all if you install it perfectly and take time to line it up just right. I love the feel of typing on it. Slicky but tactile enough to keep me from hitting the wrong keys.

Go buy a skinomi protection screen cover on amazon. Like 4 bucks and slow shipping is free. Lifetime warranty and the new version is just as good as an invisisheild if not better.

Watch YouTube installation videos as it is a "wet" / "very low moisture" install but extremely worth the knowledge that nothing is touching your screen and when cover gets enough blemishes you just pay shipping for next one.

Skinomi has best customer service I have ever gotten. They updated the screen cover to fix a proximity sensor issue...and sent me the new one absolutely free when I emailed asking TO PAY for the newer screen protector version! In doing that they got a customer for life!

Gorilla Glass does not live up to the hype. I already have a scratch from normal usage. Put a screen protector on it, you will regret it later if you don't. I regret it and now have to live with an annoying scratch

From another perspective, I have experienced NO degradation in response on the touch screen when using a screen protector (on my D2), and no degradation is image quality on the screen. So the protector stays on. Lasts many months. IMHO, it's not worth the risk to go without it. BTW, ever read the ads for cellphones on eBay? Many ads contain "no scratches, screen protector on from day one". A screen protector will keep your phone more valuable if you ever want to sell it.

Oh, you CAN scratch it, but it is pretty damn hard. I have carried my D1 with no protector in the same pocket as my keys and loose change now for 2 years. I do have 2 scratches on the screen, that most likely got there, when I had bolts or screws in my pockets and I was leaning up against something. The scratches aren't bad and you don't notice them when the screen is on. The biggest advantage to the Gorilla Glass is that is is damn hard to crack...

Talk to any iPhone user that has dropped their phone on concrete and it is usually cracked the first time. I can't count how many times I have dropped my phone in the driveway or garage and while my metal case is beat to hell, the screen is still intact.
