Already i'm noticing a big improvement in battery life.
Sent from my DROID2 using DroidForums
Are you unrooted? Stock with no bloatware? You should have it, if not get it from droidlife
My D2 is miles ahead of me running Cm7GB(OTAkernel)
So I woke up this morning and saw my Droid saying it was downloading an Update and said "WTF finally?"
Then I searched and saw this thread. Some of the stuff said made me laugh.
Here's what I got...
-I backed up /data as a safety precaution. Then I removed Superuser, that FM Droid radio app, and some other Google apps (Music Beta and whatnot).
-Did this method: New Root Method (Droid 3) - xda-developers
-Removed su/busybox binaries from old path, put new su/busybox binaries in xbin path
-updated superuser/updated busybox
Works fine. Anything that needs escalation to run, runs.
Was kind of expecting that new music app on Droid 3 to completely replace the old one on Droid 2, meh. Copy and paste doesn't work as advertised. Kernel is still old.
It's nice to see an sh not so archaic, busybox's almquist is still preferred, nice to see better init, bleh. Performance does seem a better. Some good stuff, some stuff I would still like to see...
meh nothing is perfect.
I don't remember uninstalling any of the Motbloatware from my phone, but I did as you suggested. I had no Idea what SBF meant, so I looked it up and found another forum with instructions: TBH & MyDroidWorld Present: Droid 2 (2.3.20) Triple Threat I downloaded the FULL SBF file, the RSDLite 4.8, and the Moto Connect 4.17 USB Drivers and followed the steps. It took me a while, but I was able to figure it out. Once I SBF'd, then the phone rebooted. Problem: I was getting a blue triangle up on the task bar next to the signal bars (instead of the 3G symbol). I looked up how to fix THAT and was able to activate my phone by dialing *228 then pressing option 1. Ok, my phone was now SBF flashed and activated. Now the test.... I downloaded the Gingerbread update (which took forever partially cuz I was so anxious) then attempted to install the update. The phone rebooted, update tried to install.... SUCCESS!!!! I knew it right away once I saw the new motorola boot logo.
Thank you so much for your help. I'm really digging the new dark-blue task bar. Now on to my next project, rooting this sunova*****!
