Droid 2 dropped in water - used rice - put battery back in after - now sizzling noise

Hello. my stupid ass dropped my Droid 2 in water for a split second. I have been letting the phone sit in rice for just over 24 hours now and I just tried to put the battery back in the phone and when I did it makes a slight sizzling noise where the battery and phone connect for power. Am I completely screwed? Do you think it's because of the rice? Should I keep the phone in rice longer? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I'm thinking the same, it wouldn't hurt to leave it in the rice longer though. I wouldn't get my hopes to high. Water damage can be a ...

Keep it in! If after 3 days it doesn't power on toss it, but I'd give it till then. It took my LG Dare that long to come back to life.

    Haha Thanks for your inputs.
I am going to leave it in the rice for a while longer... just in case it decides to work. If worse comes to worse I do have insurance on the phone... BUT this is a brand new phone... just about 2 weeks old... (i dropped my old phone and the screen cracked) Clearly I should not have such an expensive phone. All of my ****ty phones have been to hell and back and have lasted me. Go figure.

Last resort you can try desiccant. Its a drying agent meant for electronics and have heard of good success rates.

I recall a time I was at a Chinese Restaurant, and they had a "sizzling rice" dish.
I wonder where they got that idea from...

You're not SOL unless you put the battery in too soon and power it up and end up frying the chip.

3 days is the recommended length for keeping the battery in one bag of rice and the phone in a separate bag of rice. Do not put both in the same bag. Make sure they are completely covered with rice. Giving the bags a little shake here and there every so often helps too.

I've helped out countless friends who have had this issue. Worse was a co-worker who dropped his Droid Incredible in a puddle of dirty cold water at work (natural gas company) and it was in the water for 8 hours. Another co-worker found it and gave it to me and I automatically knew who it belonged to. Gave it back to my co-worker and told him exactly what to do. Instead of 3 days I told him to leave it in there for 5 to 7 days just in case.

He still has the same Droid Incredible and it's working just like it never was in the puddle of dirty cold water.
Funny how some people complain more than my 2 year old daughter does.

My LG Dare went for a swim in the porcelain pond. Took battery out, dried it off, used a hair dryer on the phone. Did not try the rice treatment. After thoroughly drying the phone with the hair dryer, put the battery back in and it worked!
    Three days later, it died.
    Do the rice trick.
