    Gmail on Droid question

Just got my phone last week and learning how to do everything (upgraded from Blackberry Storm). I know this is probably something simple but can't seem to figure it out. It appears that my online Gmail account and the Droid Gmail are linked ie if i delete Gmail messages on my Droid, it deletes them from my online account. I do not want this to happen. Here is the scenario I want:

    - all Gmail messages are online (ie viewed from web browser on my computer) and immediately forwarded to my Droid. This is currently happening so no problem. I want to be able to delete messages from my Droid but have them stay on my online account until I choose to delete them from there.

Any tips are appreciated. Also, it appears that the fastest option for the Droid to check emails (besides doing it manually) is 15 minutes. Is this true? My Blackberry had the option of checking every minute. If true, is there any hack or way to change this to a faster option?

Gmail is linked so there's no way to not do something on your phone and not do it on you pc. Also gmail is pushed, so when you get an email to your gmail it is pushed to your phone immediately, just like on a BB. Now for other accounts there are intervals I believe, but not sure.
Forgot...if you use the yahoo mail app it pushes emails as well.
    Sent from somewhere...

I pretty new to Android as well so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... I don't think there is a way to delete emails from your phone and keep them on your online account. For your other question, you can add your Gmail account to the messaging or email app and have new emails pushed to your phone instead of setting up a fetch time. Like I said, I'm new also but this has worked for me.

    Welcome to the forums!

Don't give up yet! In your gmail account online you can set up pop3 access, from there you should be able to get a client that has the option to leave messages on the server. Check K-9 mail or one of the other clients out there. This is the beauty of Android, there's usually a way to do whatever you want to do.

Well, it is sort of doing what you want. The emails are NOT being stored on your phone. You cannot separate the two because your phone is not an email client, it is a tool to access your email client.

Why, exactly, do you want your emails to not be accessible on your phone? They are not taking up any memory (in case 16 gig isn't enough for you).

If your concern is someone getting hold of your phone and reading your emails, there are other ways around this. You can archive the message, this will require someone else to do at least one additional step to read your mail. Or, you could forward the message to a different email account and then delete it from the gmail account.

Not to worry though each email deleted on the phone goes into your trash folder which you can access from the phone or the computer. I often delete an email and then find I want to reference it, so I open up trash and find what I need.
I like to think that the emails deleted on the phone are "archived" in the Trash folder. They have to be physically deleted from trash folder on computer to be totally gone.

Um, on my BB when I'd go to delete messages it would ask me if I wanted to just delete them from the handheld (phone), or gmail entirely. It was pretty slick.
