i think i have an idea of what the OP means. i have my gmail on my droid 2. if i log onto gmail.com or look in my gmail app on my phone, the folders, inbox, etc are all synced. this is what you want, correct?
I've noticed I'll get notifications about new emails on my D2 before they show up on the web if I have the window open already (usually as a background tab while I'm surfing something else at work or home) but yes, both have access to the same database which has your emails on both, check your archive folder as you most likely have archived them there.
Now, if you're not using the stock gmail app then yeah maybe you have imap set up to access your gmail, but, and no offense intended, you don't sound like the type of person who is doing that
Hello - and thanks to both posts . . . dankarlinski, I really don't want the mail to sync - I simply want my email to go to the account I access on my PC. I didn't set the gmail account up - the guy at the store did. I'd like to be notified of an email, then open the gmail app if I want, or wait until I have access to the PC (which is where I want to keep all my email).
TheRealKrobar First - no offense taken . . . I have NO idea what you are talking about so . . . you're right, I'm not the type person that set up imap.
The problem I'm having is the email goes directly to the Droid - there is no record of it in my gmail account when accessed on my PC. I can forward it BACK to gmail (which I do if it is important) but I'd rather just have my email go to my account and be notified on the Droid when an email is received. Again, that way I can go in (if I choose) and read the email.
Again, thanks to both of you for the responses.
Hey Killer - I get that part (like I said in my post - I realize I'm getting the email by different means, phone or PC) . . . shutting off the gmail notifications on the phone itself may be a good idea - do you know if any "important" email from Droid or Verizon comes to that account?
Thanks again for the replies - EVERYONE!!
How are you accessing gmail on your PC? Is it an email client (thunderbird, outlook, etc) or the web client (gmail.com)?
Sent from my DROID2 using DroidForums App
Buy it, use it, break it, fix it.
Sounds to me I think I undersatnd what your saying. You are using a Client like outlook etc to read your mail on you PC. When it comes to your phone you read it and it never shows up in the outlook mail window.
Is this a correct description of your problem?

This really just sounds like a problem with the PC mail client software. My guess is that it is currently set to only download "new messages" or "unread messages", but once the user has accessed a message from the droid, it is now appearing as a "read" message within the gmail servers, and therefore the PC email client is ignoring it.
I don't use a client so I don't know if this is a POP3 issue or IMAP issue, or both.
To test this theory, Turn off the phone (and leave it off till your done with the test) and send yourself a message from some other email account or have someone else do it. Then try to access your mailbox from your PC. If I'm correct your email client should be able to retrieve the messages, because nothing would have marked them as "read" yet.
Also, you still have not told us important details, such as which software you are using to access your gmail account from thephone AND from the PC. IMHO You should only be using the actual gmail app from the phone and the website when at the computer. I've been doing this for years across multiple PCs and phones and have never had the problems your are describing. I suppose the only reason you would ever want to download your messages to a PC email client is if you are requiring the ability to read and respond to mail while offline. If this is not a requirement, then why bother with an email client?
MEWSHI - I am using the gmail email client. I only use a POP3 client (Outlook) for my "home" email. For Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc., I use their clients via the Internet . . . hope that helps. Thanks!
Then I think I speak for most of us here, when I say I have no idea what is the problem. Are you getting messages on your phone that dont show up on the gmail.com site? If so are you hitting Archive or Delete on you phone after you read them? Otherwise they will be on your gmail.com in the "Read" state.
