Changing Version Information When I change My Droid, Remove Verizon update

Exactly that: Verizon tells me to update but I don't want to? any insight welcome but I would like to delve deeper into changing BUILD NUMBER, MEID, MIN and all things identifying my phone and anything that motorola who verizon says is in charge of updates can read cuz I signed a contract with verizon not moto, however I do like their product... Maybe they don't get all that info. The exact quote from Verizon last July when asked about Gingerbread Updates was they are entirely unsure when I will get it and that Motorola was in charge of it. Never did call Moto.

Haven't changed any of the settings I mentioned above but I have however managed to disable the updates.

    SYSTEM VER 2.4.33
    FROYO 2.2

    rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.apk to .bak
    rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.odex to .bak
    rename /etc/security/otacerts.zip to .bak

when naming these don't replace the extension w/ .bak just append it to the end OK

Tested by going to settings->aboutphone->updates screen flickered (normal) no popup. Seeing that the message said the update had been downloaded already and was ready to be installed, I believe it is time to find where the update was downloaded to.

Not sure if this is going to cause other troubles will search market for updates for other apps, reboot and check updates in market and stuff we will see. Found something I would like to look into more though it's called FOTA.

Not sure but does anyone else think it is possible to figure out how this updater works so when I press this little updates button when I am on my local network it will pull up a list of updates from my server and allow me to choose what to install, full package, partial pack, fixes, bugs, give me options man. I am not ready to test any roms yet, until I get this working exactly the way I want it.

After reading the information in the following two links, I have come to the conclusion; though not proven yet: that by making the modifications I mentioned previously I have in effect disabled a small part of a total mobile management program used by providers to diagnose, troubleshoot, updates and verify settings on our phones. It appears I have only disabled an interface to access updates, not sure if I disabled the whole update portion of MDM client on my phone, but so far I believe that this client is utmost important to having service on the phone and if not definitely necessary to acquire advanced support from Verizon.

SUPPORT: Like when they walk you through the steps on verifying the programming on your phone by dialing certain numbers and going through prompts. Do not remember exactly how we did this but went through the operation trouble shooting my phone when my service had become sporadic after a storm for a few days, spoke w/ a very informative female who had an attractive voice and gave me a bunch of information, customer service unlike I have ever had before from Verizon. After ruling out my phone as being a problem we blamed it on the tower and they sent a team out to the corner streets where I was staying to test the signals, neighbors thought it was funny cuz they let me use their phone and listened to my Verizon episode for the day.

Now that I am done elaborating; time for some links
