Question Root and Rom, or continue to wait?

Let me start off by saying I hate Motoblur, and don't want sight nor sound of it on my phone. I have successfully rooted and flashed a rom to my D2G, but I sbf'd back to stock when I heard they were starting to roll out official GB (I did this because as far I understand a rooted phone with a custom rom CANNOT receive OTA updates, and that Verizon knows when your phone rejects an OTA, and furthermore that Verizon is starting a list of rooted users off this data? I don't know how true or not this is, especially the 2 parts concerning Verizon, but it's what I've read). Now they're saying that they're pushing back GB to an undisclosed/unknown time.
So here we are at the title, (re-)root and rom, or continue to wait (for official GB)? What are you guys doing? I'm just trying to get a feel for what everyone is doing and why they're choosing to do so. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'd root and rom, since the whole process of getting back to an able-to-update state is pretty quick and painless...Just have a fresh from sbf clockwork backup with everything set up in Blur, and then delete the bootstrap hijack files/rename a certain logwrapper. It's pretty straightforward.

If you do a factory wipe/reset from the recovery menu after sbf'ing back to stock, does that get rid of the bootstrap as well? Or do you have to manually delete the file(s)/rename that logwrapper to get rid of it?

And I guess I'm more worried about missing the OTA and/or Verizon knowing about it. Should I be worried? Or am I just being too paranoid lol?

Paranoid. As against rooting as vzw is, there's not much they can do about it, there'll always be some exploit people can use to root. And some flaw in the system to install a custom rom to go along with it at some point.
I made a guide for removing bootstrap somewhere...Which got turned into an sbf tutorial somewhere along the way, unintentionally.

I was running stock - bloatware and SBFd back to stock when I signed up for the soak test. After a week of no news from Motorola or Verizon I switched to Hexen. I have the linux sbf_flash on my laptop and at the first hint of a soak test starting I will sbf back to stock and wait for the update.

I also sbf'd back to stock just to make sure I had all the proper files. First try at at the very end I got stock on bootloader screen and it said failed and my phone said corrupt code. Nerve racking as it was finally got back to stock after another sbf download. I'll wait little to see if it comes out. Motoblur doesn't really bother me all that much.

LOL that had more to do with the noob audience not understanding what you said than anything to do with your methodology!

    In response to the OP.

Root and install Bootloader (I suggest D2Bootstrapper) and play with a ROM if you want. But make a backup of your stock first and then quickly back it up to a PC. This way you can avoid the SBF later on and can play with the two or three roms that are D2G specific (stay away from the D2 stuff w/Romer for now) while you wait for the CM7 Port (CM4D2G) which is the last ROM you will ever want to run.

If you do decide to play with ROMs just make sure that after installing/setting each rom up make sure to make a backup (like you did with stock.)
Then switching roms is quite easy and carefree.

Well thanks for the input guys! I appreciate it. I think I am gonna re-root and try out the Hexen Rom. I'll just keep an eye out for more news on official GB roll-out time frame (specific to the D2G), and sbf back to stock again when it actually does start. Thank you again to those who gave input! This forum/community is excellent!
