You can root your phone (voiding your warranty). Once rooted you can tether for free.

    Common Misconception:
Leaving your GPS on drains battery.
Truth is: GPS is only used when you open an application that requires it. You can leave GPS toggled on at all times.

Yes tx I am rooted and I do use the tether but I would rather use a hotspot not adhoc.

If you use the tethering app from the Google code server you should be able to do full hotspot if you're rooted on a Droid 2. If you're having issues, check the settings.

Hadn't heard this...you're saying the D2 can do hotspot w/out enabling the service through verizon after rooting?

    Steps/apps details?

I've used wifi tether on my D1 and D2 to tether my laptop, but never tried, and didn't know if that's what you're saying, that the wifi tether app could support multiple concurrent connections. That's not what you're saying, is it?

    Can you elaborate?

Man i dont care how I tether as long as I can tether. Now ad-hoc does kill a battery, but if u plan on tethering for that long I suggest keep your droid plugged into a wall outlet.
-take control of your nexus experience: Make the Vzw Galaxy nexus your Galaxy Nexus. Fastboot oem unlock (to find out how ask a rescue squad member).

The D2 does full hotspot tethering, the D1 only does Ad-Hoc.

You'll want the WiFi-tethering link in my sig. Get the latest Pre version.

Search 'Wireless Tether for Root Users' in the market. It was a bit of a pain to set up but once I got it going I was amazed.

The app in the market, last I checked, was months old. This one is updated when the devs put new features together and get it stable.
