What does the market hack do?

In Lith mod there's a choice you can make to include the market hack in a given rom............ what does that do exactly?

It changes the build fingerprint to ESE81 to trick the market into showing apps that may not show with FRG01B fingerprint.

where is this "choice".. i've been running lithmod practically since the day it was launched.. i don't remember this option.. BUT i very well could have just over looked it..

its probably built into the rom and not simply an option in settings. i remember just before 2.1 rolled out...i just went into the vendor.apk and changed a few things manually so the market thought i had 2.1 and i could download live wallpapers. it was very very simple...not sure if its still that easy in 2.2 though
