Changing Launcher Icon

I'm trying to change my launcher icon from the little squares to something else, but i dont know where to find the .apk file for the regular launcher that the rom comes with.

If someone could let me know where that file was located, my plan was to copy the .apk, move it over to my pc, rename it as a .zip, extract it, then find the launcher icon, and replace it with my own. Assuming i do all the naming correctly, would that work?

It would be quicker and easier to download Metamorph from the market and search the forums for a MM theme that changes the button to an image you like. Also creating an MM file for that is really simple if you have an image you want to use. Just go to the xda forums and there is a complete tutorial on writing a MM theme.

That would be about the right steps. The files are typically in the res/drawable (hdpi) folder. You can change the .png files to something of a similar size. You are going to have to resign the .apk file before it will install.

Im placing a metamorph I made for helixlauncher2 and launcher2 in my dropbox. I will post the link and a pic shortly so you can get an idea of what you need to do.
You can download pspad, its a free xml editor, and edit the xml files to point to whatever launcher you are using. and unzip the file and replace the images with whatever you want to change the button to.

The image in this metamorph is the black superman button, I posted old screenshots with my other supes button so you could see the image can be changed. I got all my info from the xda forums, I really have very little idea about what im doing, but if you need any help let me know and I will do what I can.

I have been trying to theme launcher pro beta with a metamorph just for the button. I have had no luck thus far, If anyone has any advice.. Please chime in. I have modified my xml to go to the data/app folder, Is that wrong? Is launcher also installed somewhere else. Or are the images named something else? Im gonna keep working on it, If I figure it out I will edit the post. Any help would be appreciated. Should I just push Launcher pro to the system folder instead?


EDIT: Yup nevermind guys. I got it. I moved the updated launcher pro to my system/app folder then renamed the com.fede.launcher.apk to LauncherPRO.apk and my metamorph worked perfectly.
