If you go to the main page of droidforums.net and scroll down you will see a Droid X section with the appropriate custom roms. Over there I am sure you can get better guidance. As far as how to do it I can't help, I know very little about the phone. But there are a bunch of how-tos and great guides stickied in the main Droid Hacking section of this website which you can also navigate to from the websites home page.
