Slow 3G speeds?

First, sorry if this in the wrong section. Second, I aplogize if this is a dumb question, LOL.

I'm on CM6.1rc3. I'm getting horrible 3G speeds (500kbps down/100kbps up) used SpeedTest.net app to test. Could the ROM, my setting, etc. have anything to do with it?

I have the CM power widget on my home screen and the one button says "2G" on it, how can I make sure I'm on 3G and not 2G?

Verizon has no 2g. It has 1x, which would have 100kbps speed, and a 1x where the 3g icon is. But you pretty much never see it, as all verizon towers, afaik, are upgraded to evdo (3g). What baseband do you have?

sorry 1x. it does keep going to 1x often.

They might be doing maintenance in the area, or you could be experiencing heavy traffic load locally.

Try restoring a backup and running with it for a day and see if you get better 3G speed.
