noob question about sense3.0 BAMF Forever 1.0.9

okay, so I am rooted. I have this installed and I like everything about it, besides not being able to delete my messages easily. My battery doesn't seem to be any better then when my phone was stock. I'm wondering what else I can do to change that? Do I need to install a new kernel or what? (I'm not even positive what kernels do exactly) I know this people ask questions like this a lot but I want to know what the most recent/best rom is.

My battery was a little worse on 1.0.7 than stock so you're doing ok if 1.0.9 is as good as stock. I think bamf already has the best kernel for that rom in it.

There is a battery efficiency mode available in stock rooted 605.5. Not sure if there is one in bamf but I bet its there someplace
