Mobile Hotspot sets up a wifi network that other computers can use to access the internet. The feature is free until May 15th then VZW apparently will charge for its use at $20/month is my understanding.

yep you are correct. im going to call on may 15th to make sure they dont charge me for it.

From what I understand, they won't automatically start charging you for it on May 15th. Rather what will happen is that if you attempt to activate your mobile hotspot, then it will prompt you to accept being billed for it.

it's free till about mid-may. after that, they will send an update in which you can opt in to paying the monthly fee for it.

Thanks I am new to verizon and android. They should just keep it free like wifi. We already pay for the data. haha

if you root you can usually get wifi tether for free.

Root and download barnacle tether. I had issues with wireless tether and losing connection. You can then get it free, regardless of what verizon does.

Is there an easy way to root a thunderbolt? I rooted my D1 but its been a while, and I think it might be harder with the 4g and sim card? As far as barnacle goes, try using the skip wpa supplicant setting. Make sure its checked.
