I understand that the LTE network uses a sim card. If i already have a 3g data plan with Verizon and I am upgrading, will I automatically get an llte SIM Card?

If you buy an LTE phone it will come with a SIM card.

Will the SIM card work from the get-go, or is that to be activated later?

My guess it will work right out of the gate unless they announce a separate 4G data package and price point instead of 3G/4G as an all in one package. Until Verizon says something no one really knows.
