Well, looks like nothing happening with the Passion. I was ready to get the Droid but then decided to wait. I'll give it until the first week in December. If by then there is nothing more on the Passion I'll jump on the Droid bandwagon.
For someone like you who has doubts I have a question...
Why do you think Verizon would put so much money and backing behind the Droid? Wouldn't it make sense if the Passion was to be the flagship device to put the money behind that? Wouldn't Verizon be losing out on sales....
It is common sense.

That was in response to
"I will be picking one of these up when they come out. Always have to have the latest and greatest out there. I think I have more devices than I do socks...."

I think this is the phone I have been waiting for. Like what the Moto Droid can do but not the problems or the looks. I do like what HTC has been doing in the past and can only hope that this continues with the Passion. I'm do a Verizon NE2 after the 1st.
Taiwan market: Flood of Android-powered smartphones to hit market in 1Q10
HTC to Launch Snapdragon-Based Android Phone in Q1 2010 - At least on the Taiwanese market - Softpedia
Signs pointing to 2010, rather than our hopes for 2009.
One reason why Verizon put a lot of money advertising the Droid is that the Passion was not ready, and Verizon needed something for the Black Friday / Christmas shopping season. In addition, the Passion does not have a keyboard which is a major differentiator (at least you can advertise it that way) from the Droid. There is also no guarantee that the Passion is actually better than the Droid just because it has a faster processor. The bigger screen and faster processor will mean more power consumption.
The only reason I did not get the Droid is that I played with the keyboard and did not like it. I didn't want to fall back to the Eris, the screen was just a little too small. Therefore maybe the passion is the best option.
But... I don't think we will see it before Christmas. And if that doesn't happen there is really no reason to rush it out. So Q1 2010 is probably when it will come out
Oh okay...so promote a phone simply for holidays and then release another flagship phone in a few weeks to hurt their own sales? A background in marketing or management would help put this in perspective....
I am not trying to compare phones...I am simply trying to use logic here. There is a reason why everything seems so quiet on the front. You don't make a splash by releasing a phone out of the abyss. If you wanted to make sure Passion was THE flagship phone of this generation then you wouldn't promote the current Droid phones the way they did. It is common sense...you will lose out on much of your sales.
I also think it has to do something with the amount of smart phones HTC develops. When you come out with a phone every month then there is no real reason to promote one phone as your flagship. HTC has nothing to prove...they have come out with B+ quality products for a long time now. Motorola on the other hand was coming out with D+/C- products.
The only reason why Droid had the support from Verizon and Motorola for that matter is take a look at where Motorola was. They were failing. Their backs were against the wall and they were in last place when it came to smartphones. They were being dominated from the likes of Samsung, HTC, and others. They had to produce a product that saved their future.
When someone has their back against the wall they usually come out with a better than expected effort. Either way though I am sure the Passion will be a great phone and a force to be reckon with on the Android side.
