Hmm, extremely tempting to wait it out but really these are pretty sketchy rumors.
I'm a pretty big skeptic when it comes to this stuff but I don't see the logic in launching this.
Verizon is spending a lot on the Droid and banking on it as their smartphone for this holiday season, it would be disaster if they would launch a new potentially better smartphone 10 days before Christmas and screw any momentum the Droid gives them.
The smarter and most likely approach is mid January to Mid Feb they release this and continue the momentum of the Droid series.

Here's where my speculation leads me:
By putting all of their android phones under the 'droid' umbrella, they are already spending their advertising dollars on future phones as well as their current lineup.
I am anxious to see what their Times Square signs will be showing for 20 straight hours on Black Friday. That would be an incredible amount of time just to show off only two phones. But, to show off two great phones and hint at another invasion? I can see that as a possibility.
Another possibility, (as we have often speculated that there won't be a passion before the first 30 days of the droid, to cut down on returns), could a price drop be coming for the moto droid and the droid eris? Is it time for that yet? Prices drop on tech products quickly, so I think that's a real possibility. My guess is that they have already hit their peak with the moto droid, with steady sales remaining. I don't see any more peaks unless they do a price drop. And IF that were to happen, then it would be time to roll out another top-of-the-line feature phone, and they would have 3 droids, with 3 different prices, one to fit everybody's wallet.

You have to figure that they will drop something big the first week or so of December. With the way things work today, the Droid will be old news in a week. They'll be rolling out a 'Christmas phone'.
-
I have no doubts it's coming and as a Droid but I doubt it's release period.
Releasing a new, potentially better phone 10 days before Christmas will be chaotic. People will be returning their Moto Droids in panic, causing a huge amount of hours to be spent in Verizon stores dealing with this rather then selling phones.
I also disagree that a phone is old news fast, look at the iPhone, it's been practically the same phone since it's release but it still sells amazingly well. It's because they keep it relevant, they keep it seeming new with good ads. Old news is relative, the Hero is the best example that you might have because it was arguably the best Android phone a month ago and now it's a footnote on the Moto Droid but you have to remember the Hero is more of a summer phone then it was a holiday phone. It has some iffy specs and also not to mention they didn't advertise it near as much as they should have to keep it fresh and relevant.

Either way, it'll be interesting to watch. Let's not forget the Pre rolling out in January (bet they're wishing they could back out of that one).
Honestly, that's what I was waiting for when the Droid came along. Looks like the Android os will drive a stake through the heart of Web os.

Well WebOS, unless something dramatically changes (they open it, let it on any platform, low/free licensing) is all but doomed. It's definatly not going to compete with Android in that respect even if they do that, and we know Microsoft isn't just going to quit WinMo so they are really fighting 3 giants.

I bought an Eris last week, choosing this over the Moto Droid largely because I am not all that excited about a physical keyboard and prefer the Eris' form factor. However, the Passion sounds attractive if only for Android 2.0 - but if the Passion has the Sense UI I would expect that the Eris would get the 2.0 upgrade at the same time. Am I missing something here?
How is the size of the Passion supposed to compare to the Eris? Except for the battery life there is not anything that I can see that I would like improved at this point, but if the Passion were available within my 30 day return window I might be tempted to pay the $35 restocking fee and make the switch.
-
Keeping in mind that all of this is based on rumor, I've read that the Passion will ship with 2.0, and will have the most substantial processor of just about any mobile phone. It's also supposed to have a really big screen (bigger than Droids) which equals a bigger form factor.
Again, it's all rumor but 'they' say the HTC HD2 has a comparable footprint.

I will be picking one of these up when they come out. Always have to have the latest and greatest out there. I think I have more devices than I do socks....

Further proof from the last response of how humanity seems to be distracted by the empirical world and the perceptions that they attain. However, their perception is unique...unique to their own being.
This is why the empirical world fails. For it has nothing to do with reality.
It is no one's fault. We are taught this from day one.
