I never use my gmail address on my phone, i actually only made one since they told me i had to at the verizon store. Is there anyway i can log out of my account without totally deleting it off my phone?

No, but you can disable sync and you won't be bothered by notifications.
Best thing would be just to tell Gmail not to sync. Then you won't waste battery on something you don't use.
