RG, I dont know if its an option in your ROM. If not, you can use Desktop visualizer from the market. It will take a bit to set up every icon and remove the text, but its an option.
I touched Lord Stanley's Cup on 1/2/11.

Removing icon labels in your homescreen is a feature of LauncherPro. Grab that app and then go Menu > Preferences > Appearance Settings > Hide Icon Labels.
