Charging Issues and Service Cutout

The first time I charged my phone the led indicator did not turn green for over 12 hours and when I unplugged the charger then plugged it back in it finally turned green. Now I am experiencing the same issue. The led light never turns green unless charging from absolute dead. What would be causing this? Also...at random times my service will cut out. However the other three Verizon phones in my house get full service so I know its not a network issue. The only way I can get service to come back is by turning airplne mode on and off. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing these issues?
