eris 2.1 official OTA update

i know this subject has been beaten to death but earlier today someone posted saying it was coming in in a couple weeks if not sooner heres the site its the last post

My wife got a notification from Verizon that she's eligable to upgrade. We were thinking she was due in December so maybe they're letting her do it earlier. She's the only one in the family (out of 4) that still has a dumb phone with no data plan. She likes my youngest daughter's Eris so we may go with that. I haven't done much searching on the Eris and have a couple of ?s

Can you root it and what are the benefits of doing so?
Is the official 2.1 out for it yet?

1. yes you can root it Droid Eris Android Development - xda-developers
and its got the same benefits as your rooted droid

2. no the official OTA is not out yet but there are leaks that run fairly well
even rooted leaks as well, XDA forum is very helpful

verizon has officially posted an update is "coming soon"

so who knows when it will be but its actually comming now

i was gonna put the leaked 2.1 on my eris but i guess i will just wait

I just bought my wife an Eris yesterday. She was a little ticked off; she had been telling me she liked her phone (a dumb samsung) and didn't want to spend another 20 a month (we are grandfathered in under an alltel plan and our data packages cost 20 each). But she's been playing WordUp all morning and loving her new phone.

Anyway... on topic.... the Verizon sales rep that helped me (very knowledgable and helpful) said Android 2.1 is on it's way for the Eris. No date given, but "soon" he said.

Off topic again.... when I asked him if he'd seen the droid solve a rubiks cube he said no so I told him to google it sometime and he whipped out his Incredible and we watched it as he set up my wife's Eris. He was grinning and showing it off to other Verizon workers.

She was happy in the end and now I"m REALLY Happy... kinda wore out, but happy
