THe problem with Wireless Tether is it is a computer-to-computer wifi network. This will not work for all cases. For instance, my work laptop's security policies refuse to allow it to connect through a computer-to-computer WIFI network. The kindle probably has similar security settings.

As far as I know there is no way to make the Eris function as a true mobile hotspot.
