Astro - Quick Start Guide?
OK...I installed Astro which seems like the preferred backup utility, but I am having some trouble understanding how it works and if there is an 'automatic' mode which will make my life simple. My primary concern comes from the comments regarding the 2.1 OTA update since I have about 20 3rd-party applications that I want to make sure are there after the update.
I know that there is online help, but I am having a hard time digesting it.

Take a look here.... Astro File Manager

One more...if I have to wipe my Eris with the OTA update, how do I get the applications back? Do I download/re-install Astro and then restore the applications from the SD card? Is there a way to backup the applications from the SD card to my computer (Mac OS)?

You can use Astro to back up the apps, All paid apps will still be in your download window on the Market, goto market then menu>>downloads.
Any paid apps that are encrypted keys will not back up.
