it is the stock item, nothing added. I keep getting messages that it needs to close...

Best guess is that some other app that you've downloaded is conflicting with the calendar. Think about what's been installed recently, and start doing some uninstalls to see if you can find the culprit.
I don't think it has anything to do with any other apps, unless it's a pre-installed app. I've been having the same problem since day one.
I'm hoping it gets fixed with an update. I haven't been able to figure out what may be causing it, but I haven't looked that hard either.
The calendar still seems to work fine, just shows that error that it caused an error.
