Formatted sd and now apps on sd are gone

I plugged my phone into my mac and mounted the sd. I copied all the files/folders on the sd (the ones that were shown in finder). Then I formatted my sd card and copied the files I thought i needed from my hard drive back onto the formatted sd card. Now the apps that i had stored on my sd (via the froyo implementation) don't work. I assumed they were saved on a separate ext partition (like the apps2sd/apps2ext before froyo). But alas they were not. Turns out froyo stores it on the fat partition (apps2fat).

So in short: where are the apps stored on the sd? Is it "invisible" to finder?

I know I should have made a disk image and not just copied the files/folders when I "backed it up".

The Apps on SD should be in a folder named ".android_secure". They are usually only visible when viewed from a computer. I don't see the actual files when I use Astro, etc.

Yes, that is where the 'apps2sd' are stored, .android_secure. I wish I had more info, but I'm a PC (which shows me all my "." folders). I am curious though, what made you format your sdcard?

    good luck

my sd was completely full of idk what. I guess it was from leftover things from installed apps, caches etc.. I figured I could format and just copy any files I needed.

So I take it you didn't copy the contents or part of it to your mac first? Hmmm. . . When mine gets pretty full I usually just remove the stuff I know for sure about via a cut/paste to my pc and leave the rest alone.

    good luck

I formatted my card recently, and ran into the same problem. I couldn't see any apps from the SD card in my app drawer. I also couldn't install or uninstall apps at all, nor restore apps from Titanium. I went as far as having a replacement phone sent here and a new SD card is on it's way. Well, because of this thread, I checked out my android.secure folder and oddly I had two copies of most of my apps in that folder. I cleared out all the duplicates, and now can see apps on the card in the drawer and I can also install apps as usual. So, if you can see that folder, check to see if there are duplicates of your apps in there.

How would a replacement phone get your apps back?

Well, my paid apps would just download from the Market (they are attached to my google account), and the non paid I would restore with Titanium.

I didn't know that the card was the problem when I called for the replacement.
