    Can't Remove Twitter & FB

I'm rooted and running ShadowROM 0.0.2. (Love it! )

I'd like to replace my Twitter and Facebook applications with the themed versions of the same.

As near as I can tell, I need to remove the existing applications before I can do that. My problem is, no matter how I try to remove them, they just keep coming back!

I've tried renaming their APKs using Root Explorer. Then I reboot and when I reboot, they're back again as if by magic!

I've tried going into Manage Applications, moving them into the Data partition, and then deleting them, but I never get past the first step. I tell the system to move them to Data, I reboot, and next time I'm in manage applications, it still says I need to move them to Data.

I'm certain I'm missing something simple here... but what is it?

    Thanks!

Have you went into Root Explorer/system/app and renamed them to facebook.apk.bak and twitter.apk.bak and then rebooted ?

I see you said you have but I wonder if you have done it exactly as I outlined

They weren't there. I tried the second way first - went into manage applications and moved them to data.

When I go into system/app right now, I do not see either application.

When I go into data/app, I find both:

    com.facebook.katana-1.apk
    com.twitter.android-2.apk.bak

Doing this as I type now...

    Renaming com.facebook.katana-1.apk to add .bak...
Root Explorer tells me the rename was successful.
    Rebooting...
    Rebooted...
Swipe over to the page that has my twitter widget on it and it's still there! But that's not what I changed, so...
    Back into Root Explorer...
    data/app still shows Facebook renamed.
    Facebook doesn't appear in launcher.
Try installing the custom Facebook apk via Root Explorer...
Installation failed (I hate that it doesn't give you any other message)
Facebook is still not in the launcher.
    Try to add a widget...
    No Facebook.

OK that means that Facebook is gone, at least.

Or not... it's still showing up as com.facebook.katana in manage applications, but I can't do anything with it there.

Maybe I'll start over with a wipe & reflash...

I haven't used root explorer but see if you can find the original file without the .bak extension .I use terminal emulator and after you rename the file you must delete the original (at least when using the TE cat command).
