Did you wipe the data and cache before you installed the new roms?

Yes! When ever you change from one rom to another it is a good idea to start with a fresh slate. If you are upgrading a new release of the same rom wiping data and cache is not necessary.

Anytime you make a change to the OS, I do recommend making a backup.

Which rom are you trying to install? Because it sounds to me like it's either sapphire or cyanogenmod and you're not installing the gapps as well (there's a seperate install for google apps at least those two roms).

    good luck
