a rom is just another term to say custom android os. roms have things verizon doesnt want to or cant put in the phones they sell. thats where devs come in they add awesome features that you wouldnt normally have.

The term "rom" really isn't right, except everyone uses it, so it is what it is.

A rom, in the Android world, is usually used in the sense of a full operating system (OS) replacement. It might include a faster kernel or tweaks like checking for wifi only half as often to save on battery life. It may or may not include a theme too.

The same method of applying this rom can be used to flash a new theme, a new kernel, or even a partial rom update.

I would also call the stock OS a rom too. Using a sbf file it can be flashed back onto the phone.

so it sounds like getting a rom is the thing to do. But do I just download it or is it a long risky process? Sorry I'm a week new to Droid.
