On the rooting section, it confused me a bit on one basic point:

I did not install an overclocking kernel. I simply rooted (via Motocache1), and installed SetCPU and clocked it to 800 Mhz (or am I imagining this?). I believe this has sped things up and made it super smooth. Not too interested in going much higher.

-- I dont know if simply rooting via Motocachse method increased system performance, or if it is SetCPU or both.

The stock kernel will run up to 800MHz because Flash requires 800MHz CPU speed to run. However, the only time the kernel will run that fast without SetCPU is when Flash is running.

You just added approximately 33% more speed on the top end during day-to-day activity. You should notice the difference and it sounds like you did.

Leave all ROMs as a .zip file, just rename them update. Once you've got to that point, reboot into recovery, make a backup, then allow update.zip install and then install update.zip (deprecated).

I'll do a step-by-step if you need it, but I'll need some information first before I can tailor it to your needs.

I linked to this video in the OP. Tell me where you're getting confused. It'll save us both a lot of time.

Download your ROM of choice and rename to update.zip.
Place the ROM on the root of your sdcard.
Reboot into recovery mode (hold the power and “x” button at the same time).
    Choose “Wipe data/factory reset”.
    Choose “Wipe cache partition”.
    Choose “Install”.
    Choose “Allow update.zip installation”.
    Choose “Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)”.

So is this the correct way...ive also heard doing wipe data and wipe cache doing that 3x ?

now say i dont like this rom i just reboot holding x and click restore and click on my backup?

Make a backup FIRST! A simple Nandroid will suffice.

2-3x is recommended if you're swapping ROMs. Once might suffice but take the thirty seconds to do it a couple more times to save you the possible fifteen minutes of aggravation.

Got a good question for you. I got the so called bricked Droid back up Thanks to you of course! I understand and have done SP boot loads. My question is, how do you take a backed up Rom backed up thru Clockwork to be installed thru SP. I looked in "Clockwork Mod" and I saw the backed up Rom but How do I get that rom to load thru SP? (if that's possible). Reason why I ask is because Its a Shadow Rom that I have spent a lot of time customizing and want to load it up on my newly replaced Droid and do it thru SP? Hope I didntconfuse you ..or better yet made sense of the question

You can't use a CW backup in SPRecovery, or vice versa. While they're functionally interchangeable they are not physically (or in this case electronically) interchangeable.

At present, as far as I'm aware, the only way to get ClockworkMod Recovery on your phone is through ROM Manager. Just install it and flash CW, do whatever restore you need to do, and then either flash back to SPRecovery or run with ClockworkMod Recovery. Even if you keep CW Recovery, ditch ROM Manager. Until it plays perfectly with our phones, the last thing you want is for it to screw up while you're doing something important.
