The Android OS is tracking how you are using applications. As such, as you keep using it, it takes the apps that are not being actively used and rolls them out of memory. Since the apps can no longer request CPU time, the benchmark can now runs faster.
If you wish to test this theory, use a task killer and aggressive memory manager setting to clear out all of the application except the benchmark you are running while the phone is "cold".
