I can't find an up-to-date anywhere that can tell me how to root my Droid. I'm running 2.1, and would like to install a ROM, such as "Smoked Glass" that will let me use WiFi tethering.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks in advance

Read this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hac...ot-unroot.html thread and follow the directions. Choose the 2.0.1 sbf, get DMupdater 9 (droidmod.org), let it root for you, once it's done, follow the SG Rom Directions.
There is also an SBF file available that will flash SPRecovery to stock 2.1. It doesn't "root," but will allow you to install a rooted ROM of your choice. Check it here:
SP Recovery SBF for Stock Unrooted ESE81
There are a few ways to get rooted but if you want smoked glass the easiest way is to use RSD Lite to flash SPRecovery onto your phone. From there just install the smoked glass rom according to its directions. Link 3 in my signature to do the SPRecovery part. Link 2 for Smoked Glass. Pick up SetCPU or Overclock Widget in the market and you'll be good until you are ready to try the next thingIf you read the first post for Smoked Glass you will see it comes with a few options for kernels, depending what speed you want to overclock to.
titans post says pretty much the same thing. Read through the instructions and threads that cover those topics and then give it a try. If you run into hassles, there are plenty here to lend a hand.

If you apply a rom or theme - backup first!
If you don't know how to backup...Stop until you do.
hint: I name my backups like this: sg6.0_20100428 or ss4.2_20100626 to easily find them later. rom and date.

RSD Lite fails to flash SPRecovery everytime I try it. I guess I'll have to find another way to go about this.![]()
When you say fail, do you mean RSDlite tells you it fails? I've gotten that before, but Recovery had installed just fine.
It was just staying at the boot loader screen. No msg about it working...no rebooting.
Like it did nothing at all. RSD seems to be running for a minute or so it even said complete I think, but then said failed and I have to pull the battery to get out of the boot loader.
Hey thatguychuck. Thank you. You must have been good luck or something I just got it to work. lol
I had to play around with the deviceID options and then it worked.
