My friend wants me to root his Droid

So as the title says he wants me to root his phone and ive done it to mine but i was wondering what you all thought of using DMUpdater to root instead of doing myself cause i bricked an old sony phone he had a long time ago and i know its pretty much impossible to brick one of these (knock on wood) but i dont want to take any chances.

Has anybody done it the "lazy" way if so is it good enough for me to take my friends phone and root it that way with no worries? lol

I rooted my droid without any problems using DM Updater.

One important thing to check... has your friend already received the 2.1 update? If so, the way to root the phone is quite a bit more involved... but still not real hard... Please let us know... DMupdater cannot root a stock 2.1 phone, only 2.01...

hmm i think he might of updated it to 2.1 actually couldnt i just do a data wipe then root it if he wants me to root it? how hard is 2.1 to root

A data wipe has nothing to do with rooting. the steps to root 2.1 are in my sig. Its not hard but you need to follow the steps very carefully. There isnt a "lazy" way to root 2.1.

actually its easier on 2.1. it should take no more than 10 minutes.

flash the sprecovery .sbf, do a nandroid restore, and then install a custom rom. done!

On a side note. I highly recomend you dont do this. Not against rooting of course, but if something goes wrong later now your friend has no clue what to do. If anything show him how to do it or walk him through the steps. A lack of knowledge can get you into trouble.

If he's already got the 2.1 update then a data you're going to have to flash he 2.0.1 sbf using rsd lite and then you can use dm updater to root. Don't have any worries about using it either. I rooted using dm and never had any problems. Good luck and happy rooting...your friends phone that is
