Last night when I tried to go back to my much beloved SS2.02, I went into Clockwork recovery and tried to use the backup that I had created with Clockwork. The droid would not get past the M.
I then rebooted into clockwork and I selected install and reinstalled the CM rom that was on my sdcard. The phone then rebooted fine. I then used Droid Root Pro to install Flash Image (there's a button that does this for you) and then tried to use Droid Root Pro to re-install SPRecovery, but it did not work. I then manually installed SPRecovery via terminal emulator:
Code:
DO NOT TYPE THE QUOTATION MARKS AND MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE SPACES (if you have 0.99.2b on your sdcard, use it instead of 0.99.3b in the text below)
"su" press enter
"flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.3b.img" press enter
"reboot recovery" press enter
I then was able to use my nandroid backups to restore.
BTW, I went back almost immediately to SS2.02 because on my droid it is way faster than CM was. YMMV !!
Good luck.

I can't get back to the cyanogen rom because for some reason it doesn't show up in the clockworkmod recovery.
Should I use the .sbf file to unbrick my phone?

You needed to go back to sprecovery befire flashing the new rom coming from cynagen. Can you boot in to recovery mode (power + x button)
Sometimes , It is what it is !

if you cannot access recovery mode, just boot into bootloader mode, and install the 2.0.1 SBF file... really it's a very simple process

I'm trying to flash the sprecovery image just as you did. I downloaded the recovery-0.99.3b.img file but when i try to flash in TE I get an error msg that follows. "mtd: read all-zero block at 0x0000000; skipping" "error reading /sdcard/recovery-0.99.3b.img" I also tried downlaoding the file thats title "recovery-0993b.img" but I get the same errors. Any Ideas on that? I would get the recovery image from Droid Root Pro, but I cannot open the market with this rom...

I did not do it as a restore. I did it as an install and then it let me select the installation file from the sdcard. I selected and installed the original 5.042 zip file (the cm rom file) and then installed it.

If you can reboot into the cm rom, do that. If you can't do the install method and select the cm 5.042.zip file and reinstall the rom. Then you move good copies of the flash_image and sprecovery from you computer to the sdcard. Then install them.

Not that it is a big deal to use sbf to solve problems, it is probably best to use that as a last resort. The sbf method can actually brick the phone, mainly because RSDLite is quite crappy. Not that I am trying to scare people away from using it, but only use it at a last resort or if you kinda know what you are doing.
Loading DroidMod Roms with DMupdater, Reflashing to Older Sholes/DroidMod Roms Download DMUpdater and run it to at least install SPRecovery.
Once you have SPRecovery you should be able to load your old nandroid backups.
