General Noob Post-Root Question
Hey guys, I just rooted my phone this weekend, installed busybox, and sprecovery, disabled OTA, but not much else...yet.
As I'm reading about the upcoming 2.1 patch, I'm wondering, what if an update comes out with really good features, how can we install that if we're rooted? I'm guessing that those features are individually available to rooted phones but I'm new to this so I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance

Since I just got the phone, I haven't been following the updates long, has there been updates in the past that have prompted people to unrooting their phones to get them? If so, what were they?
Thanks

You don't need to unroot your phone, you will just need to go into sprecovery boot menu and hit allow update.zip and then install update.zip. SPR blocks OTA updates by default that's how you override it.

There has only been one other update for the Motorola Droid....in November, it was released with 2.0, around December 11th we got the 2.0.1 update from Verizon and haven't received one since that....
And I don't even think root was available at that time in December (correct me if I'm wrong on that someone)...

Do you mean after he manually downloads from Google whenever they release it?

After you get the update.zip file from Google, however you may do it, yes.

Thanks for the reply.
So the update.zip file that will be in the root of my phone will be the one from Verizon (or is it Moto?)? Even if I have OTA off?

Oh, I think I follow...so I would have to manually download the update.zip and push it to the phone, load into diags, and install it?

Is the current patch's update.zip somewhere on google's site, now? Not that I want to patch to it, I'm just curious.
