Smoked Glass V4.0

I currently have BB installed on my Veriazon Droid, I want to try out Smoked Glass. How do I go about this. Matth3w gave me a link and walk through on rooting my phone and installing BB which worked out great. Now I want to try my hands on another ROM.

Can anyone help.

Also, I'm trying to get SDK and ADB installed on my Windows 7 PC and I'm a little lost. I have the windows version downloaded to my PC, but not sure if it's WINDOWS 7 approved.

1) Make a full Nandroid Backup of your Droid.
2) Download the SG4.0 Nandroid file into the "nandroid" folder on your SD card.
3) Boot into SPRecovery.
4) Wipe data and cache.
5) Nandroid restore the SG4.0 backup with ONLY system and boot.
6) Nandroid restore the backup you did at the start with ONLY data.
7) ???
8) Profit.

Also, as long as you have the Windows version of the SDK somewhere on your W7 machine, it's installed fine.

I have downloaded SG4.0 and it's a zipped file. Do I put the zipped file into my Nandroid folder?

He very well might have to use
adb shell format CACHE:
adb shell format DATA:

but the instructions ALWAYS say to do adb shell format SYSTEM:

but yeah make a backup before you do. then restore the boot and system only and your golden.

you unzip the smoked rom zip file. open it up and copy the folder that is inside over to your phones nandroid folder. if you unzip right to nandroid the double folder will give you error 25.

OK, once I have the Smoked Glass file in my NANDROID folder what do I do next?

1. Download the nandroid backup
2. Extract the backup
3. Reboot computer into recovery by holding X and power
4. If doing this for the first time do a backup otherwise go to step 9
5. Go to backup/restore
6. Go to advanced backup
7. Hit backup name (call it mybackup or what ever u want)
8. Hit the power button to back out to sprecovery main screen
9. Select wipe data/factory reset (you get your data back if you did the backup first)
10. Go to backup/restore again
11. Select advanced restore
12. Select backup and select the rom
13. Only check system and boot (unless installing Smoked Glass v4.1, then check recovery as well. This will update sprecovery to 0.99.3b)
14. Hit perform restore.
15. Once it is done go to select backup and select the backup you made.
16. Only check data and perform restore
17. Back out all the way and hit reboot.

I spent most of yesterday trying to get a clear understanding the steps of rooting, creating a nandroid backup file, then installing the BB rom. Matth3w has been a great help!

It seems that it will take between one and two hours to root, backup, and install BB. After reading what is required to switch to Smoked Glass, for me, the obvious question --what is the difference between the two (BB vs SG). If SG offers more functionality why not make that your initial install?
