makes sense. one last questions and i'll leave you alone. I used the t3hSteve OC that you recommended in the OP. This means you recommend 600 as a max? Any reason why this one is recommended?

My guess is that the next one jumps up to 1GHz which is nearly double the OEM speed. Not only do you have to worry about the CPU itself running too hot, but I'd imagine this would drain your battery considerably faster. But I'm far from an expert, so if someone else can give a better answer, please do.

@Matth3w - Thank you so much, I followed these directions and so far, couldn't be happier with my phone. I've learned more about this phone in the last few days than I did the rest of the time I've had it. As you asked, I do have a couple minor suggestions to add to your original post. First, the wifi tethering appears to require one of the kernels you provided for overclocking. Apparently netfilter is disabled in BB. It might be worth a quick note for those who opt to skip overclocking, but still want to tether. Secondly, SetCPU may have updated since this was written, but it shows you the temp of both the CPU and battery, so Temp Monitor doesn't seem necessary - although maybe it shows you way more info, I haven't tried it. I was a little overwhelmed by the task of rooting and changing ROMs until this post, so thank you again.

I have used these instructions to flawlessly root and ROM my phone using BB. However, during an attempt to synch my phone to songbird I received an SDcard corrupt message. Now I realize what I should have done but this is what I did do: I reformatted the flash and of course the flash is fine and I have music again. What I don't have is all of my back-up files from these steps. Not that I am doing this anytime soon, but now what do I do if I want to go back to factory and/or accept an OTA update?

I believe it's an option when compiling. Mind you I have very limited experience with compiling. However, that put me on the right track so I installed the 600MHz kernel by TehSteve that you provided and that did the trick.

    Trouble with step 10

When I click on the following link in step 10 I get a new window with characters that look like this:

    ELF(P4T4 (!pxx444 /system/bin/linker%-*!)( +$"' &, # % e,[ hA $%0tI<PlHlZT` ?l5x dLTS&̈ S؈N4E,L:o ,,t8D

Any suggestions as to what this is all about? What have I done wrong?

    10. Download the file flash_image from here. This file should NOT have a file extension!!! Make sure it does not have a file extension of ANY TYPE!!! If you or your computer have added a file extension (some users have reported that their computer added a .txt at the end of the file) it will not work! If you go to download this file and Vista puts a .txt extension on it, simply remove the file extension. Again, you can double check to see what, if any, file extension it has by right clicking the file and choosing properties.

    flash problem

it sounds like the file is saving as .txt check the properties to see file name and remove .txt if there.

The above flash_image link opens with the characters above and does not give an option to download and or save. I click the link and a new window opens with these characters.
