Does it matter that I am using Windows 7? I also have tried to find the drivers for MOTO Droid I don't think they are on Motorola's web site anymore. Or maybe I am just that much of a noob I am not looking in the right spot.

Yes certain anti virus programs will tell you it is a virus or exploit.

Ok i cant figure it out. I have rooted and un-rooted my thunderbolt a couple of times. I figured this would be easier. I dl 1.7 and it says it is for Galaxy S. I take it that is not what I am looking for? When I double click on the root file it doesnt bring up th windows based option I have seen on youtube. It just brings up a Dos based window.

Doubtful. I'm not 100% on this because I no longer have my Eris but I'm about 80% sure that you need a sdcard for any rooting method on the Eris.
