I followed the step-by-steps and it worked wonderfully! I reverted back using my backup, but now when I hold down my power button and the X key I get the modified recovery screen. Is there anyway to get rid of this as I have to bring my droid in to VZW for a warranty issue?

Also since I restored from my back-up will I be able to get OTA updates?

    Reverse the step in 21.

@kahf - If you can boot to the /!\ screen then you should be able to use the instructions at this thread http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...o-busybox.html to get back to stock. Do that, then you can try these instructions again if you feel up to it.

@mkarolian - I would follow the instructions at this thread to get fully back to stock: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...o-busybox.html. They look like the best I've seen yet.

Hey guys the flash_image link is temporarily down, in the meantime you can use http://cyanogen-files.carneeki.net/flash_image.zip as you can see this is a .zip file so you'll have to extract it first before pushing to the phone and doing the steps.

@khaf - Glad to hear you worked through your challenge. As sholes.info updates their rom, they will tell us if the latest rom release requires an updated sprecovery. You will need to read the release notes that are posted with each rom update as they are rolled out to know for sure. As long as you have the latest sprecover you should be able to flash the latest sholes.info rom.

OK - I am a noob with all this (I am an old winmo guy and have a long way to go with droid). Before I set off on my root journey, I tried to download all of the prerequisite files, and noticed a couple of files appear to be missing (from the links listed in the initial post):
    • recovery-0.99.2b.img (which i located at rootyourdroid.info here
    • virginoem-backup.zip
Anyone know where I can get my hands on virginoem?

Btw - (not that it matters) - I am intending to flash with Pete's Bugless Beauty v8 rom.

    Thanks

    John

yes - that was the first thing i tried. As i indicated, i am a noob with this so i am a little concerned about grabbing the wrong file and ultimately bricking my droid. One the the links that looked promising was also dead: here
