    Rooted my Milestone..

Ok so Im a total nitwit in this whole smartphone thing

    I had a Nokia X3 and yesterday got a Milestone A853 with Android 2.2.1

Ive heard all about Root etc so I googled and found Universal Androot
Then I heard from a friend of mine about CM7 and UD and he told me I should flash my phone

Being a carefull person by nature I looked around first and noticed that CM7 supports the Droid but not the Milestone.
After some more googling and asking around with friends I came across this site CyanogenMod 7 for Milestone A853 | android.doshaska.net

First of, does the above link actually work on the A853? Anyone had any experience with it?

There's a lot of info there so I started with the easiest, putting ClockWorks on.
Theres instructions to rooting the phone but I assume that since Ive done that I can skip all those steps? Also, I just cant follow those FAQ's, do this do that... Im smart but its too new for me to get a hold on lol

So yea if anyone can help Id be very grateful

First off, to the forum. This is what I would do: 1)Make a backup with Clockwork 2)Find the SBF for the Milestone and get your pc setup for it in case you need it. That way if anything goes bad, you have more than one way to fix it. After you got that, 3)Go for it.

If you totally hose your phone, sometimes the only way to get it working again is with RSD lite to flash an SBF file while your in the bootloader. Heres something I found: Getting Motorola Milestone 2.2.1 Froyo to 2.3.3 Gingerbread [update] » Questmaster's Blog. I'm not saying thats the gospel, just something I found. Take your time and research.

The search is your friend. Example, It took approx. 15 mins to get 1 response. If you google "milestone sbf", you'll get ~90,000 in ~0.16 secs. Get me?

Thats the thing i was looking for! I was looking for an easy to follow steps rather then the steps that are in the CM7 wiki
I have actually been looking lol

    Thanks!

EDIT: I actually dont have a USB cable. Do you think i can do it any other way?

You can use your phone to download the files. Just remember where you put the files, of course. And use WiFi if possible, 3g can be if'y. Since your downloading the whole operating system for your phone, you want to make sure you're getting the whole file. Just make a backup up in clockwork and you should be ok. But the instructions in that link are the same for the driod A855 using clockwork. And the first boot can take 5 mins. or so sometimes.
