Shortcut to a document on home page?

Is it possible to place a shortcut to a document on a home page or in a folder on a home page? I access this doc frequently; my last phone was rooted and rommed and it had this ability.

I do it using Astro File Manager, which you can get for free in the Play Store. Once you have the app, you can add a shortcut to a document. If you are using Touch Wiz, add an Astro widget and Astro will prompt you to choose a document to link to. I use the Go Launcher....from Go you would add a shortcut to the homescreen and choose Astro and then the doc.
